Are you moving in the summer heat? Check out these tips to stay safe and cool during your move.
Be prepared for reduced speeds in high temperatures. In hot weather, it is essential to plan for tasks taking more time than normal and for team members to take plenty of breaks in shady areas. With acclimatization, your body will gradually get used to the heat; however, begin slowly and then increase activity level as tolerated.
It's important to drink water even when you don't feel thirsty yet. This helps prevent dehydration. Avoid sugary or caffeinated drinks, like energy drinks or coffee, as they can make dehydration worse.
The morning is usually the coolest time of day, so if you need to do any physically demanding tasks, try and get them over with then.
If you find yourself in the heat without water, go to a restaurant or store and ask to fill up your bottle. Be sure to bring some cold water bottles with you, as well as your regular unfrozen one.Not only is water good for you, but so are foods like watermelon, cucumbers, celery and green peppers that contain a lot of water.
If you want to protect your skin from the sun, wear light-colored clothing that's not too tight, and put on a brimmed hat made with breathable fabric. Don't forget to apply sunscreen to any skin that will be exposed to sunlight 20 minutes before you go outside.
